Paying more than you used to? We’ve all been there.

Spending further than you used to pay doesn’t make anyone happy, whether it’s in the grocery store or for a faster security line.

Unfortunately, that’s the reality for some Clear members. Those who receive a discounted price on their Clear annual memberships will see a price increase starting Feb. 1.

But don’t despair! There’s good news, however: You still can get an annual Clear membership for free.

Clear is getting a little more expensive.

If you’re a Delta SkyMiles or United MileagePlus member, then you’ve probably been enjoying the perks of Clear’s annual membership for free.

But that’s about to change. The low cost of your annual membership will go up on February 1, 2023, from $179 to $189—and that’s before any other fees that may be added on in the future.

However, if you’re an elite member in either of these programs, you may still get a discounted rate on your Clear membership. You could also get a free membership if you’re really high up in their ranks!

The price increase applies to everyone: First, if you are a member of United MileagePlus or Delta SkyMiles, you will be paying $179 per year instead of $119; members of the Delta Silver, Gold, and Platinum Medallions will be paying $149 annually instead of $109; holders of credit cards from United Airlines and Delta Air Lines will also be paying $149 annually instead of $109; and members of the Delta Diamond Medallion and 360o will continue to pay $109 per year as they do now.

It’s not all bad news: the good news is that if you hold one of their top-tier elite status accounts with either airline, then you’ll still get a discount on your next account renewal.

The bad news is that if you don’t have an account with these airlines and want to join one now, you’ll pay a higher price than someone who joined last year—or even this month!

So if you’ve been thinking about joining an airline loyalty program and want the discounted rates that come with becoming a member, now might be the time!

Clear is still available without cost.

Keep in mind that if you carry the right credit card in your wallet, you can sign up for a Clear membership for free. You can receive reimbursement for up to $189 in annual Clear membership fees using the following cards:

• American Express® Green Card.
• The Platinum Card® from American Express.
• The Business Platinum Card® from America

The Bottom line

In summary, I would say that Clear is certainly a fun service to use. Clear can be very helpful. It makes the experience of going through security much easier than waiting in a long line. If Clear is available at your airport, it’s probably worth giving it a try!
